Nicholas Fung fired a four-under-par 67 to grab a share of the lead at the halfway stage of the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour’s RM180,000 I&P Group Closed Championship today.
The Sabah player moved to a five-under 136 total to join first round leader Shaaban Hussin at the top of the leaderboard at Kinrara Golf Club in Puchong.
Shaaban stumbled to a one-over 73, a day after he carded an impressive opening round of 63.
With scoring a lot tougher than on the first day, Hans Jamil shot the low round – he had a five-under 66 to show for his efforts. It also saw him climb into third place on 137, alongside Kenneth De Silva (67), Muhammad Alwarith Damian (68), M. Sasidaran (70) and Sukree Othman (71).
While those performances left the group just a stroke off the lead, Kim Leun Kwang (69), Lim Eng Seng (72) and Airil Rizman (72) were two shots behind the pacesetters on 138 in eighth place.
R.Nachimuthu (71) was 11thon 139, while Zamri Sariff (68), Kemarol Baharin (71) and Khor Kheng Hwai (72) were four strokes off the lead, to set up what should be an exciting third day’s play tomorrow as the jostling for position intensifies.
PGM general manager Mior Abd Rahman said that is exactly what they expected to unfold tomorrow.
“The leaderboard is jam-packed,” pointed out Mior. “The leading 14 players are all within four shots off pole position and with two days still to go, it should develop into an interesting battle at the top of the leaderboard.”
