Malaysia’s Kemarol Baharin climbed into a share of the lead after the third of the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour’s Impian Championship today.

The 29-year-old and a multiple winner on the Tour joined Thailand’s Donlaphatchai Niyomchon at the top of the leaderboard after carding a five-under-par 67, with the latter signing for a 69. The top-two were on 13-under 203 with a day to go.

Another Malaysian, R. Nachimuthu shot the low round of the day and his second successive six-under 66 to move to third, alongside another Thai Sutijet Kooratanapisan, who had a 68. They were a stroke off the lead on 12-under 204,

Donlaphatchai’s brother, Natthapong Niyomchon, followed up his second round 64 with a four-under 68 today and was alone in fifth place on 11-under-par. The Niyomchon brothers from Bangkok jointly led the tournament at the halfway stage.

Thailand’s presence was made notable with Settee Prakongvech sitting in sixth place. He shot a 69 of his own for a 10-under 206 total.

In seventh spot was Malaysia’s Akhmal Tarmizee (69) on nine-under 207, while his compatriots Airil Rizman (68) and Mohd Rizal Amin (69) were tied for eighth place with Thailand’s Pipatpong Naewsuk (69) on seven-under-par 209.

Happy to be still top of the pack, albeit in a share with a different player, Donlaphatchai credited his putting to staying on course for the title in a tournament that carries RM180,000 in prize money and is co-sanctioned with the Asean PGA Tour.

“I putted well and I am still in the running for the title,” said Donlaphatchai. “Hopefully I can go on tomorrow and do the same, if not better, and maybe win it here at Impian.”
